Traffic expert Ahmed Hisham confirmed that the General Directorate of Traffic, in coordination with the traffic departments across the Greater Cairo governorates, is readying to handle the heavy travel flow usually seen at the end of the workweek.
During a phone interview with Nihad Samir on the “Sada al-Balad” channel, Hisham explained that the General Directorate of Traffic has intensified its services on highways using motorcycle units, rapid response recovery vehicles, four-wheel-drive vehicles, fixed and mobile checkpoints, alongside speed radars.
He noted the ongoing traffic closure on Haram Street in Giza Governorate to accommodate the construction of seven stations for Phase II of the Cairo Metro Line IV.
He advised drivers to use the Tersa Street and King Faisal Street as alternative routes to ease congestion, especially for those arriving from the Cairo–Alexandria Desert Road and the Cairo–Fayoum Desert Road.
Hisham added that there is a total closure on North 90th Street due to repairs for a road subsidence, with traffic diversions in place for vehicles heading toward Suez Road for 48 hours.
Furthermore, Ibn Sandar Street is closed for 72 hours from its intersection with Saray El Qobba Street to Ibn Aqil Street, with traffic diversions implemented to smooth the flow.
He concluded by announcing the completion of development work on the 135-kilometer Wadi El Natrun–El Alamein Road, which connects the Cairo–Alexandria Desert Road with the North Coast.
The road is operating at full capacity with five lanes in each direction, and the General Directorate of Traffic has raised the official speed limit on it from 100 to 120 km/h.
