Party in the Park
The 29th season of Party in the Park continues on Thursday with a headline show from Start Making Sense, a tribute to rock band Talking Heads. The Dip, a Seattle-based R&B band, will open the show.
The summer concert series takes place every Thursday at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park through Aug. 13. Gates open at 5 p.m., and performances begin at 6:30 p.m. This year’s lineup includes both nationally touring artists and local artists across multiple genres.
General admission is $7, and children 12 and under get in free. You can get tickets online here, in-person at the Auditorium Theater on East Main Street, or at the gate. The 56th annual Puerto Rican Festival kicks off on Thursday, bringing live music, authentic food, cultural performances, family-friendly activities, and dozens of vendors to Parcel 5 on East Main Street.
The three-day festival runs through Saturday. The entertainment lineup on Thursday starts with a DJ at 5 p.m. and ends with a performance from El Blanchy from 9:30 to 11 p.m.
Friday’s entertainment runs from 5 to 11 p.m., and Saturday’s entertainment runs from noon to 11 p.m. You can get tickets to the festival and see the complete schedule here.
Buffalo Bills training camp
Buffalo Bills training camp at St. John Fisher University continues on Tuesday. The camp kicked off on Monday with Bills Mafia gathering to welcome Bills players to Pittsford. You can see News10NBC’s coverage here.
The Bills will hold six more open practices at Fisher: Thursday, July 30, Saturday, Aug. 1, Monday, Aug. 3, Tuesday, Aug. 4, Thursday, Aug. 6, and Friday, Aug. 7. This year, the Bills’ practice starts at 8:30 a.m. every day, earlier than previous years.
The people who got tickets for the camp through the lottery system have already been notified by email. This marks the 25th year of training camp at Fisher.
Don’t expect to park at Fisher. The only public parking option on the Bills’ website is at Nazareth University. Those who park there have to take a shuttle to Fisher for $1. That shuttle starts running each day at 7:15 a.m., and the end time varies from 11:30 a.m. to noon. Doors to the camp open at 7:30 a.m.
National Cheesecake Day
Cheesy Eddie’s is celebrating National Cheesecake Day and its 50th birthday starting on Thursday. Two different Cheesy Eddie’s locations will give out thousands of free slices over the next three days.
The Jefferson Road location will give out over 1,500 free slices from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday and again on Friday. Then, the South Avenue location will give out free slices from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. Local food trucks will also be there all three days.
Jewish Film Festival
The 26th annual Rochester Jewish Film Festival continued on Thursday. The JCC Hart Theatre at the JCC of Greater Rochester and the Dryden Theatre at the George Eastman Museum have been screening films every day that highlight Jewish culture.
The festival began on July 26 and runs through Aug. 2. You can get tickets here. This year’s festival includes 26 films from 12 different countries, including films from New York State. It also includes some post-film discussions. Here’s the film schedule for Thursday:
