And that’s kind of what I’m hoping that he brings. And I believe he will bring that type of mindset, you know, to our team.”
Fast, violent, contagious. That’s a specific profile, and it’s one Bryant not only recognizes in himself but actively leans into.
“The biggest thing I want to do is be known for energy,” Bryant said. “That’s something that I’ve always wanted to be known for. I feel like it can be contagious, and like I said, just bring other guys along with me as well.”
None of this is a surprise if you go back to the day the Bears signed him. When Ryan Poles explained the move in March, he used almost the same language Allen did on Wednesday, proof that the vision for Bryant has been consistent from the front office to the coaching staff.
“When we watched Coby’s tape, he was a guy that got us excited,” Poles said back in March. “Because again, he played our style of ball, he played fast, he played physically. Those are the things that (Dennis Allen) is looking for, that we’re looking for. We thought there was leadership there. He’s young, and we had to adapt to that, and we had the opportunity to bring a really good player in, and that’s the decision that we made.”

That leadership is already showing up in how Bryant talks about the guys around him. He’ll be paired at safety with rookie first-round pick Dillon Thieneman, and the early chemistry sounds like it’s ahead of schedule.
“He’s very knowledgeable, he knows the game, and I don’t really have to tell him too much, and we’re on the same page every snap of the ball,” Bryant said. “We can communicate off the field as well. He’s going to be a great young player for sure, and I’m excited to play along with him.”
He was just as glowing about Jaylon Johnson, the corner anchoring the back end alongside him.
“I’ve been watching his tape since college,” Bryant said. “He’s an elite competitor, dominant man, can tackle, makes plays on the ball. We connected right away early. Me and him have a great connection early. Excited to be playing with him.”
There’s real production behind the good vibes. Bryant is coming off a season in which he posted 66 tackles, four tackles for loss, seven pass breakups, and a career-high four interceptions across 15 games for Seattle, then added 10 tackles and two more breakups during the Seahawks’ Super Bowl run. That’s a ball-hawking, downhill safety arriving right as the Bears need one.
Because the back end looks a lot different than it did a year ago. Kevin Byard and Jaquan Brisker are both gone, and Bryant and Thieneman inherit the starting jobs, along with a defense that led the NFL in takeaways in 2025. The versatility should be an upgrade: Bryant profiles as the playmaker against the pass, while Thieneman brings the downhill, in-the-box element that helps against the run and adds to the rush.
The one question worth discussing is whether they can keep the takeaways coming. Byard alone led the league with seven interceptions last season, accounting for better than a fifth of Chicago’s NFL-best takeaway total, and that ball production is now in New England. Replacing it falls largely on Bryant and Thieneman. If Bryant’s four-interception form travels, and if the energy Allen is banking on really is contagious, that concern takes care of itself.
