It’s been an eventful day here at BN Bears with Ryan Poles and Ben Johnson meeting with the media on the first day of practice at Halas Hall. But an update outside of the building piqued my interest, and should yours as well.
On an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show today, Packers beat writer (The Athletic) Matt Schneidman said he believes star edge rusher Micah Parsons will miss “the first month and a half of the season,” pegging Green Bay’s Week 6 meeting with the Dallas Cowboys at Lambeau Field as the likeliest return date for Parsons.
“Micah Parsons is starting on the PUP list. He is probably gonna miss the first month and a half of the season. The Packers have a strict nine-month no-football rule after ACL tears, and Micah’s wasn’t even a clean ACL tear; he had a meniscus injury too, so he had to get that repaired. So, the earliest we’ll see him on the field, even on the practice field, is September 30.”

As Schneidman noted, September 30 would be nine months and one day after his injury. The Bears visit the Packers at Lambeau Field on October 11, and if Parsons is touching the practice field for the first time on September 30, there’s a strong chance he’s not suiting up for the first Bears-Packers matchup of the season in Week 5.

When Williams was named No. 51 on the NFL’s Top 100 list last week, Parsons paid some respect to Williams’ game, but also made it clear he’s looking to settle the score from last season with Williams and the Bears, who eliminated Green Bay in the NFC Wild Card round.
“I can’t lie. The celly and everything is super great. Like, I won’t even lie to you … Yeah, we’re gonna have to correct some of them things this year,” Parsons said. “’cause where there’s ice, there’s always fire. And I’m the fire.”
If Schneidman’s timeline is accurate, the Bears won’t see Parsons’ fire until they meet in Week 16 on Christmas Day.
