Potomac Valley Open Championships
July 9-12, 2026 Eppley Recreation Center, College Park, MD LCM (50 meters) “PV 2026 LC Age Group Championships – copied” on Meet MobileIt was an impactful day for soon-to-be Virginia Cavalier Alyssa Sagle in College Park, surging to three big career bests at the Potomac Valley Open Championships.
Sagle, despite only taking one event win, which came in the 50 backstroke, where she touched in 28.20, marking a new career best for her, also added best times in both the 100 fly and 200 IM. In the 100 fly, she clocked a 1:01.78 in prelims, which topped her former best of 1:02.63 from this meet last July by nearly a full second; she followed that swim with a finals performance of 1:02.62 for a 5th-place finish.
In the 200 IM, she clocked another best time in the prelims in 2:20.74; she later would finish runner-up in another career best by almost a second in 2:19.89. Before this meet, she held a best time of 2:23.17 from the AP Race London International from May of 2025.
Sagle’s Nations Capital Swim Club teammate Ellie Hook continued the best-time surge, swimming a best time in each of the four events that she competed in, including the 100 free (1:02.45), 50 back (29.64), 50 fly (28.16), and the 100 fly (1:06.58).
Breaststroke ace Brian Benzing was also in attendance in College Park, picking up a pair of breaststroke wins in the meet. He touched in 27.86 to win the 50 and added 1:02.73 in the 100 breast to sweep the sprint breast events. In addition to his breaststroke wins, he also raced the 200 free, which he finished 2nd in 1:54.95.
Delaware commit Sophie Fredericks was among the meet’s biggest winners, securing three individual titles and swimming a plethora of career bests. Her wins were made up of a butterfly sweep; touching the final wall first in the 50 fly (27.83), 100 fly (1:01.41), and the 200 fly (2:19.41). As for her lifetime best swims at the meet, those came in both the 50 and 200 fly, and she added additional personal best times in the 200 IM (2:23.23) and 100 back (1:04.02).
