Finnish melodic death metal band Insomnium has announced its tenth studio album, Netherworlds, nearly 30 years after the group was formed in Joensuu, Finland, in 1997.
The new album is set for release on Oct. 16, 2026, through Century Media Records.
The band shared the news on Instagram while also releasing a new single and music video, “Gleam in the Black.” The song is the second track revealed from the upcoming album and gives fans another look at the sound of Netherworlds.
Fans can now listen to “Gleam in the Black” on streaming platforms and watch its official music video on YouTube. Insomnium vocalist and bassist Niilo Sevanen said the song is one of the faster tracks on the new record and was made with live shows in mind.

“Being one of the faster songs on the new album, this is a track that should get the crowd moving when played live,” he said, per The PRP. “It definitely carries a classic Insomnium spirit. The lyrics tell a dark and mysterious love story, capturing the mood and atmosphere of the entire album. We are doomed to wander the nightly woods, searching for something lost long ago, something we can reach only in our dreams. That single gleam of light amidst the blackness.”

Netherworlds will feature 10 main tracks, with three additional songs listed as bonus tracks on the deluxe edition.
The album opens with “The Cold Song” and continues with “Shadowlife” and “Remembrance” before reaching “Gleam in the Black.” The track “The Hour Grows Late” will feature Tomi Joutsen, Tomi Koivusaari and Santeri Kallio.

Formed in 1997, the Finnish group released its debut album, In the Halls of Awaiting, in 2002. Its early 2000s releases helped establish the band within the melodic death metal scene.
Insomnium followed its debut with Since the Day It All Came Down in 2004 and Above the Weeping World in 2006. The band later released Across the Dark in 2009 before moving into the 2010s with albums including One for Sorrow, Shadows of the Dying Sun, and Winter’s Gate.
The band’s later albums include Heart Like a Grave, released in 2019, and Anno 1696, which arrived in 2023.
The release of “Gleam in the Black” gives listeners the second preview of Netherworlds. Its lyrics follow a dark and mysterious love story, while the accompanying video adds a visual side to the song’s night-time setting.
With the album scheduled for October, Insomnium is entering another chapter after nearly three decades of music.
