The Rapture, adapted from Liz Jensen's bestselling 2009 novel, is a BBC psychological thriller which follows a forensic psychologist as she starts a new job at a high-security psychiatric hospital.
Dr Gabriele Fox (Ruth Madeley) is assigned 17-year-old patient Bethany Krall (India Amarteifio), who was convicted of murdering her mother but insists she is innocent.
Set during a punishing heatwave with protesters on the streets, the series weaves together climate anxiety, faith, grief and a possible miscarriage of justice, as Bethany claims she can see the future through disturbing sketches of disasters to come.
"Bethany tells Gabs that she had a vision of her coming," Madeley said in regards to the show. "Gabs works with many children with psychological issues, but there’s something about Bethany that feels a little bit different.
"As they continue to work together Bethany gets more visions, she’s able to draw them out and show Gabs, and Gabs sees things coming true from these drawings.
"She is slowly getting reeled in, and we don’t know whether she’s being led down this wild path or whether Bethany’s telling the truth, or if Gabs is in danger."

Ruth Madeley as Dr Gabrielle Fox
About the character: Gabs is a clinical psychologist for adolescents and a wheelchair user, following a car accident that killed her husband and left her paralysed. Two years on, she starts a new job at a psychiatric hospital in Wales, where she is assigned Bethany Krall and slowly finds herself drawn into the teenager's claims that she can predict the future.
Where you've seen Ruth Madeley before: Madeley earned a best actress BAFTA nomination for Don't Take My Baby (2015) and went on to a lead role in Russell T Davies's Years and Years in 2019. She has also appeared in Then Barbara Met Alan, played Shirley Anne Bingham in Doctor Who, and features in The War Between the Land and the Sea. On The Rapture she also serves as an executive producer.
India Amarteifio as Bethany Krall
About the character: Bethany is a 17-year-old held in Oxsmith psychiatric hospital, having been sectioned for the murder of her mother, Carys Krall. She maintains her innocence, insists she has psychic powers, and is estranged from her father, the religious leader Leonard Krall. Bristling between menace, vulnerability and barely contained rage, she forms an intense, cat-and-mouse bond with Gabs.
Where you've seen India Amarteifio before: Amarteifio broke through as the young queen in the Bridgerton spin-off Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, and has also appeared in The Midwich Cuckoos.
Sam Hazeldine as Leonard Krall
About the character: Leonard is Bethany's estranged father and the charismatic leader of the Faith Way, a spiritual movement with millions of online followers. A former Cardiff vicar, he now preaches a more universal idea of God, and remains desperate to reconnect with the daughter he has been unable to see.
Where you've seen Sam Hazeldine before: Hazeldine's credits include The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and Slow Horses, along with the BBC thriller Requiem.
Iwan Rheon as Dick Carwyn
About the character: Dick is a washed-up journalist who once investigated the Faith Way and Bethany's visions before losing everything. Bitter and battling a drinking problem, he finds his passion for the truth reignited when Gabs arrives, and helps her dig into the history of the Kralls.
Where you've seen Iwan Rheon before: Rheon is best known as Ramsay Bolton in Game of Thrones and Simon in Misfits, and has more recently appeared on screen in Those About to Die. He also voices Remus Lupin in Audible's Full-Cast adaptations of the Harry Potter books.
Jack Farthing as Frasier Melville
About the character: Frasier is a geologist working in renewable energy who has recently moved from London to South Wales to work on a new wind farm. He meets Gabs at a fundraising event, and a relationship grows, though he proves an ambiguous figure with a slice of his life he would rather not discuss.
Where you've seen Jack Farthing before: Farthing played George Warleggan in Poldark and Prince Charles in the film Spencer, and has appeared in Industry and Rain Dogs.
Naby Dakhli as Rafiq
About the character: Bethany's nurse and the only person she's comfortable with. Rafiq "insists Bethany’s predictions always come true".
Where you've seen Naby Dakhli before: This is one of Dakhli's first major roles, but you may have seen him before in Netflix's Messiah, Agent Hamilton or Prime Video's House of David.
Siena Kelly as Anika Drake
About the character: Bethany's late mum. She was murdered, supposedly by her daughter.

Ruth Jones as Mel
About the character: Jones plays Mel, Gabs's therapist.
Madeley said working with Jones was her favourite on-set memory. "Having Ruth Jones as your therapist? Come on. You can’t write that stuff. It’s incredible. So, getting to share the screen with her, act opposite her, that was a beautiful moment," she said.
Where you've seen Ruth Jones before: Jones is an iconic British actor, being most well known for playing Nessa in Gavin & Stacey, which she co-wrote. In addition to the celebrated comedy series, she is also known for roles in shows such as Little Dorrit, Stella and recent hit BBC show The Other Bennet Sister.
