PITTSFORD, N.Y. (WHEC) – Rudy Sautron broke all sorts of records on his way to winning the 85th Monroe Invitational, one of the most prestigious amateur golf tournaments in the country.
Sautron shot a tournament record 19-under par, which was previously held by last year’s winner, Oscar Couilleau, at 14-under. Interestingly enough, both golfers hail from France.
But Sautron’s tournament was in its own stratosphere. He only bogeyed one single hole – the par 4 18th on Friday. That was even part of a 7-under round of 63, which vaulted him into the lead after three rounds.
Sautron would pace himself on day four, but birdied the 17th and got some revenge with a birdie on the 18th to close out an impeccable four days at Monroe Golf Club.
“I don’t have any words for it,” said Sautron. “I think my name on this trophy means a lot.”
With the win, Sautron now gets an automatic invite to the PGA Tour’s Bermuda Championship in October. He also gets an invite to the Porter Cup, another prestigious amateur event.
