‘Friday Night Lights’ Favorite Kyle Chandler Embraces the Silver Fox Era at Comic-Con

Kyle Chandler rose to stardom as Coach Eric Taylor on Friday Night Lights, but the fan favorite is scoring praise for something else these days: his graying hair.

Chandler, 60, played the role of Taylor from 2006 to 2011 on the now-revered NBC series, which followed the ups and downs of Texas high school football in a small town. Along with Connie Britton, who played his wife, Chandler became a Hollywood staple who eventually moved on to other acclaimed roles. From The Wolf of Wall Street to Carol, his roles in important films have built a solid career.

In a new appearance at HBO Max's Lanterns Hall H panel during Comic-Con International at the San Diego Convention Center, Chandler showed off his salt-and-pepper hair that's scored him a title of Silver Fox. Who doesn't love a touch of grey?

In his upcoming role as Hal Jordan in the superhero series Lanterns, Chandler found the same wonderful experience that he had with FNL.

“There are a lot of comparisons in my heart between that show and this one, as far as the absolute enjoyment of the two and the people,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “It was a spectacular six months of my life. And I think that joy, and everyone felt it, I think that joy is what’s gonna show up on camera.”

2026 is the 20th Anniversary of Friday Night Lights

Friday Night Lights premiered on NBC on Oct. 3, 2006, and launched the careers of a variety of stars including Michael B. Jordan, Jesse Plemons, Taylor Kitsch, Minka Kelly, and Adrianne Palicki. Last month, the cast spent time with each other with smiles on their faces at the ATX Festival. While two decades have passed since it first hit the airwaves, the group got back together like no time had passed at all.

"We really couldn’t stop laughing," Britton captioned her photo series. "To reunite with this wonderful, once in a lifetime cast and crew after 20 years was precious and spectacularly fun. Thank you @atxfestival for bringing us together to celebrate this show that we loved, and most importantly, the people. Texas forever. #FridayNightLights."
