Sheriff’s officials in western Michigan are investigating after eight people, including six children, were found dead following what authorities described as a “suspicious” fire.
The deaths were reported at a residence in Grand Haven Township, just outside the city of Grand Haven and roughly 20 miles south of Muskegon.
According to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, first responders were called to a home in the 114900 block of Riverside Trail before noon, where they encountered a fire and smoke.
As firefighters entered the home to battle the fire, they discovered eight people who had died inside.
Officials said two adults and six children, ranging in age between 5 and 15 years old, were among the victims.
Authorities said multiple people had been shot, but details about who was shot and their causes of death hadn’t been released as of Friday evening.
Sheriff’s officials have not yet identified the victims as they work to notify family members.
Autopsies have been scheduled, with results expected on Saturday.
