Speedo Sectionals finalist Avery Borbash has announced her verbal commitment to swim and study at Liberty University beginning in the fall of 2027. She publicized the news on SwimCloud, writing:
I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at Liberty University! I want to thank God, my family, my coaches, and the many people who poured into me during this process. God not only blessed me with this talent but also gave me the strength and courage to pursue it. Special thanks to Coach Mixon for getting me here and to my parents for always supporting! Thank you Coach Jake, Coach Jessica, & Coach Sam for giving me this opportunity as well. I am beyond excited for this new chapter. Go Flames
A rising high school senior, Borbash is based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where she currently trains with Crawfish Aquatics and specializes in middle-distance free and IM.
Borbash made steady progress in the 200 free, 200 IM, and 400 IM during the 2025-26 short course season, dropping from 4:30.64 to 4:28.32 in the 400 IM, 2:07.99 to 2:05.92 in the 200 IM, and 1:52.26 to 1:51.53 in the 200 free. Her top times in the 100 free and 500 free date back to previous years: she clocked 52.46 in the 100 free at the SE MTS Gabrielle Rose Tiger Classic in January 2024 and 5:07.21 in the 500 free at the Mississippi SC Championships in February 2025; she went season-bests of 52.86 and 5:09.02 in those events this season.
Her top meet of the season was Speedo Sectionals – Justin in early March, her first time competing at the meet, where she made finals in three events: she touched sixth in the 400 IM and 12th in the 200 free with current lifetime bests, in addition to grabbing ninth with a then-PB 200 IM (2:06.24).
Though currently in the midst of the long course season, she notched her most recent PB last month at a smaller club meet, the NC WOLF Short Course Meet.

Borbash’s current lifetime bests would have earned a spot in the ‘C’ finals of the 200 free and 400 IM, while times of 51.57 in the 100 free, 2:05.32 in the 200 IM, and 5:03.11 in the 500 free were required to score, already slating her to be an immediate contributor with two full seasons still ahead to potentially improve before lining up at her first conference meet.
Borbash joins Celia Francis, Avery Aubrey, and Mirielle Trumpower in committing to the Flames’ class of 2031 so far.
