Person hit by train in downtown Wheaton, ‘extensive delays expected as police investigate

A person was hit by a train in downtown Wheaton Thursday morning, halting transit as police urged residents to avoid the area amid an ongoing investigation.

The city said the incident happened around 9:30 a.m. near Front and Cross Streets.

    There, Union Pacific said a person was struck by a train and taken to a local hospital “with unknown injuries.”

    “The train crew was not hurt, but witnessed the incident and is being offered support,” Union Pacific said.

    Trains on Metra’s Union Pacific West Line were halted in both directions. The city asked residents to avoid the area while Metra Police investigate what happened.
