Party in the Park
The 29th season of Party in the Park continues on Thursday with a headline show from Samantha Fish, an acclaimed blues and Americana guitarist. The Adam Ezra Group, a folk and Americana soul group, will open the show.
The summer concert series takes place every Thursday at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park through Aug. 13. Gates open at 5 p.m., and performances begin at 6:30 p.m. This year’s lineup includes both nationally touring artists and local artists across multiple genres.
General admission is $7, and children 12 and under get in free. You can get tickets online here, in-person at the Auditorium Theater on East Main Street, or at the gate. People can bring one sealed bottle of water, but lawn chairs, bicycles, skateboards, in-line skates, and pets are prohibited. See News10NBC’s guide to Party in the Park here. International Plaza happy hour
The International Plaza is hosting a free happy hour and donation drive on Thursday. The plaza on North Clinton Avenue will have live performances by Frankie’s Latin Jazz Trio and music from DJ Gaby. People who attend are encouraged to bring donations for Venezuela to provide relief after the earthquake.
The event starts at 5 p.m. and goes until 9 p.m. Not able to attend Thursday’s event? The plaza hosts “Market Sundays,” weekly throughout the summer. This Sunday, July 26, the plaza is hosting the “El Calle Ocho Cruise-In / Car Show,” from 1 to 5 p.m.
Free kids’ vision screenings
Free vision screenings for kids will take place at the Strong National Museum of Play on Thursday, from noon to 2 p.m. in the Adams Atrium. People from pre-K through high school will be eligible for screening.
Screenings are also set for Aug. 20 from noon to 2 p.m. in the same location. Volunteers from the URochester Medicine Flaum Eye Institute’s Pediatric MobilEyes program will do the screenings. It’s part of the museum’s Summer of Exploration program, partnered with CooperVision, to educate people about eye health. For more information on the screenings, visit The Strong’s website.
Final days of Shakespeare in the Park
“Shakespeare in the Park” continues at the Highland Bowl at Highland Park on Thursday. This season, Rochester Community Players are performing William Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew” but with a modern twist. This version of the play is set in 2015, where technology and relationship roles are quite different than in Shakespeare’s time.
The free performance starts at 8 p.m. “Shakespeare in the Park” began on Thursday, July 9, and there are only a couple more days left. Final days of $1 dog adoption
There are only a couple of days left for Rochester Animal Services’ $1 dog adoption program. If you would like to bring home a furry friend, the shelter on 184 Verona St. is open from noon to 6 p.m. on weekdays and noon to 4 p.m. on weekends.
“Dollar Dog Days” continues through Sunday, July 26, part of the ROC The Shelter campaign. Rochester Animal Services says the adoptions help create space for other animals, especially as the shelter undergoes renovations that have temporarily reduced its kennel capacity.
