A 23-year-old Fairfield man was arrested hours after a stabbing left a man dead in a business parking lot Tuesday, police said.
Fairfield police identified the victim as 21-year-old Nicholas Ortiz, also of Fairfield. Officers responded near East Travis Boulevard and Flamingo Drive around 10:50 a.m. after receiving reports of an altercation.
Officers stopped a vehicle that witnesses said was connected to the incident and found Ortiz unresponsive in the front passenger seat. Police provided emergency aid before he was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Detectives used witness interviews, surveillance video and other evidence to identify Royshawn Brown as the primary suspect, according to police.
Brown was taken into custody without incident around 2 p.m. in the 1700 block of Sunset Avenue, less than three hours after officers first responded.
Because weapons were reportedly involved, Fairfield police said their Emergency Services Unit helped detectives serve a search warrant at a residence connected to the investigation.
Investigators have not disclosed what led up to the stabbing or specified what charges Brown could face. The investigation remains active.
