According to a statement issued by the Turkish Presidency, Erdogan congratulated Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez on Spain’s World Cup victory during a phone call.
He expressed his deep appreciation for the joy of the Palestinians in Gaza who watched the match amidst the rubble following Spain’s triumph.
During the call, on Tuesday, the two leaders discussed bilateral relations and regional and international issues.
Erdogan expressed his gratitude for Sánchez’s attendance at the NATO summit in Ankara on July 7-8.
Erdogan added that he would be pleased to welcome Sánchez back to Turkey in early 2027 for the Turkey-Spain Intergovernmental Summit, which is expected to witness the signing of new agreements and the strengthening of bilateral cooperation in several sectors.
