SIMI VALLEY, Calif. (KEYT) – A 37-year-old Simi Valley man wanted for domestic battery and elder abuse died after being shot by Simi Valley Police officers following a vehicle pursuit Tuesday.
On July 21, around 8:15 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 2500 block of Dusan Street for a reported domestic violence incident stated a press release from the Simi Valley Police Department.
Arriving officers learned that the suspect, a 37-year-old Simi Valley man, had fled the scene prior to their arrival and a preliminary investigation resulted in probably cause to arrest the 37-year-old for domestic battery and elder abuse detailed the Simi Valley Police Department.
According to Simi Valley Police, officers were informed the man was armed with a firearm and allegedly stated his intent to "shoot it out" with police if law enforcement responded to the domestic violence incident.
Around 1:35 p.m., officers spotted the 37-year-old driving near the Simi Valley Town Center and attempted a traffic stop noted the local law enforcement agency.
The 37-year-old failed to stop and a vehicle chase ensued through Simi Valley before ending near the location of the initial domestic violence incident Tuesday morning in the 2500 block of Dusan Street explained the Simi Valley Police Department.
According to Simi Valley Police, an officer-involved shooting occurred at the end of the vehicle chase and the 37-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
No officers were injured during the incident added the local police department.
The limited details surrounding the fatal incident are not being released at this time to protect the ongoing investigation being conducted by detectives with the Simi Valley Police Department alongside investigators with the Ventura County District Attorney's Office shared the Simi Valley Police Department.
A separate investigation will be conducted by the Department's Professional Standards Bureau noted the Simi Valley Police Department.
