Chicago Blackhawks forward Connor Bedard is fresh off signing a new five-year contract to stay with the team, but he’s got thoughts on a franchise legend potentially returning to the Windy City.

“That would be incredible to get to play with him and learn from him,” he said. “Hopefully he decides to come back, and you talk about kind of the legacy aspect of it, but just as a team, it would make us a way better team. He’s still an amazing player.”
Kane has had a remarkable career, winning the Calder Trophy as the league’s best rookie during the 2007-08 season and the Hart Trophy as the league’s MVP during the 2015-16 campaign. He also won the Art Ross Trophy as the league’s leading scorer in that season, and along with his individual accolades he’s won three Stanley Cup titles in his career.
He currently sits near the top in most major offensive categories for the Blackhawks, scoring 446 goals and dishing out 779 assists during 1,161 games with the club over parts of 16 seasons.
Kane was traded to the New York Rangers during the 2022-23 season, and has played the last three seasons for the Detroit Red Wings, putting up 16 goals and 41 assists last season in the Motor City.
If Kane were to return to the Blackhawks, the team has plenty of salary cap space to play with, and he would likely find an instant connection with Bedard, who is coming off his first career 30-goal season in the 2025-26 campaign.
Bedard is going to miss the start of the season after suffering an offseason shoulder injury, but he’ll likely be back in the mix after the first few weeks of the season, and the Blackhawks will surely hope to get him some more help on the offensive side of the puck.
