ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Lots of folks are cleaning up after the swath of damaging and flooding thunderstorms yesterday… To recap, we had seven severe thunderstorm warnings, two tornado warnings, three flash flood warnings, and 49 total storm reports… We had record-breaking rainfall in Rochester, with considerable flash floods region-wide… There was also an especially concerning level of wind damage in Victor, though no tornado has been confirmed there. It is more likely that the damage was the result of a downburst, but we will update you if the National Weather Service sends out a survey team to investigate. Overall, truly a violent weather day. The Threat Tracker has returned to Green as the weather will be much calmer and more comfortable today. Expect lots of sunshine, highs in the mid 70s, a modest northwesterly breeze, and a dry feel to the air. A slightly degraded air quality this morning will also quickly improve.
Monday will be warmer with highs around 80 degrees and a few more clouds, but shouldn’t be turning too humid. That changes Tuesday as we track our next storm system. Low pressure is currently spinning over Edmonton, Alberta, and will make its way down through southern Canada and over the Great Lakes by Tuesday, with a cold front strapped to it. That cold front will scrape up heat and moisture resulting in more showers and thunder, though the exact timing, location, and intensity is too early to tell. Likely the biggest impact would be more rain causing more flooding, then gusty winds. Make sure to check back in for updates, as the last thing we need right now is more severe weather.
