Tennessee high school state finalist Dixon Hamilton has announced his verbal commitment to swim and study for Denison University, becoming the first publicized commitment in the Big Red’s class of 2031. He wrote on SwimCloud:
I am excited to announce my commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Denison University! I’m incredibly grateful to my family, teammates, and Coaches Tim, PJ, Jess, and Joe, who have made this possible through their constant support along the way. Thank you to Coach Gregg, Coach Kristen, and Coach Kellen for this opportunity. I am honored to become part of this special program and look forward to contributing to the team’s continued success. A rising senior at the Webb School of Knoxville in Tennessee, Hamilton has been a member of his school’s varsity swimming team since his freshman year. He also trains year-round with Tennessee Aquatics, where he specializes in distance freestyle.
Hamilton is coming off a breakthrough 2025-26 short course season that saw him drop over 21 seconds in the 1650 free, six seconds in the 500 free, and two and a half seconds in the 200 free.
On the high school scene, Hamilton made a pair of ‘A’ finals at the Tennessee Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association (TISCA) in February, his first time making a championship final. He touched fifth in the 500 free (4:35.28) and seventh in the 200 free (1:42.01), in addition to helping the 400 free relay (47.82 anchor) finish 11th and the 200 free relay (21.91) secure 14th. He closed out his season at Tennessee Aquatics’ Southern Premier Classic a month later, where he updated his PBs to 1:41.66, 4:33.16, as well as 15:58.50 in the 1650 free.

Hamilton is still two full seasons of training away from his first conference championship meet, yet his current personal bests would already place him fifth in the 1650 free, sixth in the 500 free, and eighth in the 200 free, well within scoring range (the 2026 Division III NCAA qualifying cutoffs stood at 1:37.84, 4:28.72, and 15:40.80).
