The Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools Board of Education has confirmed the appointment of Patrick Greene as the next principal of Chapel Hill High School.
Greene was named the North Carolina Principal of the Year in 2022 at Greene Central High School, which was named a Model STEM School of Distinction under his leadership. Greene also previously served as principal at Greene County Early College High School, which earned recognition as a National Blue Ribbon School during Greene’s tenure. He has also served as an adjunct professor at East Carolina University.
Greene is a multi-time alumnus of ECU, having received four degrees from the school, including a Doctorate of Education. He has been both a North Carolina Teaching Fellow and a North Carolina Principal Fellow.
“I am honored to join the Chapel Hill High School community and excited to begin this new chapter,” Greene said. “I look forward to getting to know our students, staff, families and alumni while building on the school’s tradition of excellence. Together, we will continue creating an environment where every student is challenged, supported and inspired to reach their full potential.”
Greene replaces Steven Sullivan as Chapel Hill High’s principal. Sullivan was hired in November of 2023, but stepped away due to health challenges. Allison Scercy currently serves as Chapel Hill High’s interim principal.
The school district is in the process of setting up a meet and greet opportunity with Greene before the beginning of the 2026-27 school year. More information will be made available “soon,” the district said on social media.
