Junior Nationals qualifier Elonu Rodrigues has announced his verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas beginning in the fall of 2027. He publicized the news on SwimCloud, writing:
I’m excited to join the UNLV swim program, as it’s the perfect place for me to continue to grow as a swimmer with strong coaches and teammates, while also returning to Las Vegas, a city my family and I lived in when I was a young swimmer.
The New York native is heading into his senior year of high school and trains year-round with Asphalt Green Unified Aquatics, where he specializes in backstroke and IM.
Rodrigues is coming off a 2025-26 short course season that saw him drop over three seconds in the 200 back and 400 IM, and a second and a half in the 100 back and 200 IM. His current personal bests were set at various meets throughout the season: he clocked 50.55 in the 100 back at the Katie Ledecky Invitational in December, 1:53.43 in the 200 IM at the TYR Senior Mets Winter meet in February, and 1:48.67 and 3:56.14 in the 200 back and 400 IM at Speedo Sectionals – Ithaca in March.
Though he has not yet competed at either meet, Rodrigues earned Winter Junior qualifying times in the 200 back and 400 IM, and a Summer Junior cut in the 200 back this season.

Rodrigues’ current lifetime bests would have qualified for the ‘B’ finals in the 200 back and 400 IM, and the ‘C’ final in the 100 back, setting him up to be an immediate contributor with two full seasons of training still ahead of him before he even lines up at his first conference meet.
Rodrigues joins Colin Pickett as the only publicized commits in the Rebels’ class of 2031 so far.
