Country singer Zach John King unexpectedly pulled out of his performance at the Country Thunder music festival this week, releasing an emotional message to fans about the sudden and heartbreaking change in his life.
“Due to unforeseen circumstances, Zach John King is no longer able to perform at Country Thunder Wisconsin,” the festival wrote on social media.
King later took to his Instagram to reveal the circumstances behind the cancellation.
“Friday my dad suddenly went home to Jesus,” he wrote in an emotional message alongside a series of photos of his father. “He was our family’s rock. My best friend. The greatest man I will ever know.”
King wrote that his father’s passing happened “in the literal blink of an eye Friday,” but further details surrounding his passing weren’t immediately released.
“We wanted 25 more years with him and that pain will cut deep for the rest of my life,” the singer wrote. “However, if there were ever a moment to be sure my dad is waiting for me in the very place all of our souls long for, it would be now.”
King subsequently canceled his next two weeks of performances to “grieve with my family,” but promised to return after.
“After that, imma do what my dad would want me to do and get back to work,” King wrote.
In light of King’s absence, Country Thunder released an updated Friday schedule for the Wisconsin music festival. Performances will now include Charlie Argo, Hannah McFarland, Mark Chesnut, Ian Munsick and the Red Clay Strays.
The festival is scheduled to take place July 16-19 in Twin Lakes, Wisconsin, with headliners like Keith Urban, Gavin Adcock, Riley Green and more.
