OXNARD, Calif. (KEYT) – On Tuesday, the Oxnard Police Department released its community briefing about an officer-involved shooting following a foot chase on the morning of June 17, 2026.

On Wednesday, June 17, around 4:50 a.m., an officer saw a white Mercedes-Benz near Magnolia Street and C Street that was associated with 28-year-old Victor Gallegos who had an active felony warrant for his arrest and was wanted in connection with a felony-level evasion incident in the same vehicle on June 11, 2026, detailed a press release from the Oxnard Police Department on Tuesday.
According to Oxnard Police, officers attempted to stop the Mercedes-Benz for a vehicle code violation, but the driver fled the scene and a vehicle pursuit began.
Officers lost sight of the vehicle before locating it near Ventura Road and Second Street and the chase ended when the vehicle collided head-on with a patrol vehicle driven by Officer David Raney in the 3400 block of Neap Place noted the Oxnard Police Department.

During the struggle, Gallegos allegedly punched Officer Raney in the face several times and attempted to remove his service weapon from its holster while ignoring multiple verbal commands to stop detailed the Oxnard Police Department.
Officer Raney fired a single round from his firearm that hit Gallegos in the upper left leg stated the Oxnard Police Department.
According to the community incident briefing, a woman was in the Mercedes-Benz at the time of the head-on collision and she was later identified as a protected person with a restraining order against Gallegos
Officer Ramey was wearing a body worn camera during the incident and footage from the device was included in Tuesday's community briefing video, but the camera appears to fall off as Officer Ramey entered the backyard where the June 17 shooting occurred.
The remaining footage shows the space between two homes and captured other responding officers moving through the damaged fence and into the backyard on Neap Place.

Following his release from medical care, Gallegos was booked at the Ventura County Main Jail on his felony arrest warrant and a felony vehicular evading charge connected to the June 11 incident noted the Oxnard Police Department.
The Oxnard Police Department shared with Your News Channel that additional charges will be recommended to local prosecutors regarding the June 17 incident.
Officer Ramey had minor injuries after the incident and he was placed on administrative leave in accordance with the department's policy explained the Oxnard Police Department.
He remains on administrative leave as of Tuesday added the local police department.
According to Oxnard Police, the investigation into the officer-involved shooting is being conducted by its Major Crimes Unit alongside a Senior Deputy District Attorney, District Attorney investigators and members of the police department's Professional Standards Unit.
