HOPEWELL, N.Y. — A 67-year-old man is dead after Ontario County Sheriff’s deputies say he was hit by a truck in the Town of Hopewell Saturday night.
Deputies say them, along with Canandaigua Ambulance and Hopewell Fire, responded to Routes 5 and 20 near the Econolodge Hotel at around 11:30 p.m. Saturday for a report of a person hit.
Investigators say William Obernesser, of Rome, N.Y., was walking across the road when he was hit by a pickup truck. Obernesser was brought to F.F. Thompson Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after getting there.
Routes 5 and 20 were closed for about four hours, but is back open Sunday morning, deputies say.
