Mr. William Patterson Denton

William Patterson “Pat or Bill” Denton (85) of Ridgetop, passed away Tuesday July 7, 2026 at Skyline Medical Center with family by his side.

Pat was born in Carthage Tennessee on January 15, 1941 to parents Howard P Denton, and Minnie Elizebeth Tyree Denton. As a boy he lived on the family farm and graduated from Carthage High school in 1959. That same year he met the love of his life, Betty Jean Sauls Denton. From that time on he was a devoted and loving husband and they were inseparable for 66 years. They had two sons, Darrell and Eddie, 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Pat took pride in his work and dedicated 39 years to Nashville bridge company where he started in 1964 in insurance administration, moved up to apprentice electrician and onto shipping manager. In 2001, when nashville bridge company closed, he accepted a management position at gallatin welding supply where he devoted 20 years and retired in 2021. He enjoyed his work very much and built friendships with many of his customers.

Christ and his family were most important to him and he loved them so deeply. He and Betty loved doing life together and always worked as a team. Pat had a sweet tooth and he and Betty would often take a ride to enjoy milkshakes. He loved being surrounded by his children, grand children and great grand children. No one who met Pat forgot his welcoming kindness. He was a friend to all, showed respect to everyone and was always ready to lend a helping hand. He loved teaching his kids and grandkids new things and riding them around the yard on his lawn mower or pitching the baseball. He was always positive and looked on the bright side down to his last days. When you’d ask how he was doing, you could bet he’d say “mighty fine” or “better than I deserve.” He was rarely seen without his blue jeans, his pocketknife, and a button-up shirt with an ink pen tucked in the pocket.

His love for the Lord was evident in the way he lived each day. He was an active member of Goodlettsville church of Christ where he loved to sing bass during worship. He truly enjoyed being involved in the church and the friendships he made there.

He loved listening to bluegrass music with Betty at the coffee house on Friday nights. He looked forward to his monthly dinner and conversation with his high school class mates the “59ers.” He and Betty enjoyed traveling together and meeting new friends. He never passed up Betty’s home cooked meals and always started his day with the newspaper and a cup of coffee. He enjoyed hunting, wood working, and tending to his yard.

He was so loved and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was truly one of a kind. His memory will remain in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Pat was survived in love by his wife Betty Denton; his sons, Darrell Denton (friend Rosie) of New Jersey, Eddie Denton (Betsy) of Charlottesville, Virginia and daughter in law Teresa Denton Pennington of Hendersonville; 5 grandchildren, Laura Young (Devin), Kristen Denton Powers, Caroline Denton, Will Denton, Brittain Denton and grandson in law Jacob Powers; 4 great grandchildren Madeline, Zayne, Everett and Rosemary.

The family will have a graveside service on Monday July 13.
