2026 EUROPEAN JUNIOR SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Tuesday, July 7 – Sunday, July 12, 2026 Munich, Germany LCM (50 meters) Psych Sheet Live Results Recaps Prelims: Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3 Finals: Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3

We officially entered the halfway mark of the 2026 European Junior Championships, with this morning’s prelims session lighter in terms of number of events compared to previous days.

That means we have a hefty lineup of finals for tonight’s agenda, in addition to the semi-final rounds of what transpired earlier this morning.

The girls’ 100m freestyle saw one swimmer dip beneath the 55-second barrier, with Neutral Athlete Kira Manokhina getting it done for the top seed in 54.07.

That holds about a second advantage over the next-closest swimmer, Hanna Capron of Great Britain, who snagged the second spot in 55.03.

Spain’s Irene Ciercoles is very much in the mix, courtesy of her morning outing of 55.29, while Lithuania’s Ieva Jurkunaite enters the second round with a mark of 55.35.

Both Ciercoles and Manokhina landed on the 50m freestyle podium last night behind champion Theodora Taylor of Great Britain. Ciercoles secured the silver and Manokhina bagged the bronze in that splash n’ dash contest.

Additional ones to watch among those 100m freestylers moving on include Italy’s rising ace, Alessandra Mao, who is just 15 years of age. She nabbed the 9th seed in 55.72, although she’s been as speedy as 54.84 in her young career, a time she registered for 6th place at last year’s World Junior Championships.

Germany’s Linda Roth is also ready to make her presence known, clocking 55.62 as the 8th seed in her quest to double up on the 200m free gold she already captured here in Munich.

Roth had a breakthrough performance at the German Championships this past May, winning two individual titles and going five-for-five in personal best times.

Although it wasn’t one of her victories, arguably her best performance of the meet came in the 100 freestyle, where the 17-year-old turned in a massive lifetime best of 54.30 to become Germany’s 4th-fastest performer in history.

Belgium is seeking a gold in the boys’ 400m IM, with 18-year-old Simon Laviolette leading the pack with a morning outing of 4:23.35.

Laviolette of Swimming Club Rixensart already earned a bronze in the 200m IM, so he is seeking an upgrade in this longer event.

He’ll need to fend off the likes of Neutral Athlete Denis Piataikin and Romania’s Matei-Cristian State, however.

The former delivered a performance of 4:23.70 and the latter hit 4:24.09 to earn the respective 2nd and 3rd seeds.

State in particular will be hunting the gold as a means to carry on Romania’s win streak in this event, with Robert Badea having won the gold last year. State owns a lifetime best of 4:21.01 from the Mare Nostrum Tour stop in Barcelona, so he will need to drop major time to get into the realm of Badea’s gold medal-winning mark of 4:18.22 from Slovakia.

Russia’s Piataikin, too, has never before been beneath the 4:20 barrier, carrying a PB of 4:21.29 into this competition.

After landing on yesterday’s girls’ 1500m freestyle podium with a silver, Hungary’s Vivien Jackl is staking her claim on the 200m butterfly.

The versatile 17-year-old notched a mark of 2:12.95 as the top performer out of the heats, although her competitors are close behind.

Teammate Boroka Kertesz registered a 2nd-seeded effort of 2:13.32 to be situated less than half a second back, as Neutral Athlete Serafima Fokina is also right there in a result of 2:13.90.

Fokina is carrying momentum from a silver medal-worthy performance in last night’s final of the girls’ 100m butterfly sprint and is also the reigning European Junior Championships bronze medalist in this longer race.

Although the once-Shane Tusup-trained Jackl’s hardware arsenal includes multiple European Junior Championships medals in the 400m IM and distance freestyle events, the Hungarian is seeking her first podium in this 2fly. She owns a PB of 2:10.36 from earlier this year, a time which would have earned the silver last year.

The mixed medley relay saw the nation of Italy wind up ahead of the pack, posting a time of 3:51.53 to land lane four for tonight’s main event.

Great Britain registered 3:52.54 and the Neutral Athletes rounded out the top three squads with 3:53.02.

Interestingly, Sweden and Israel tied as the 9th-best performers, with both teams putting up a time of 3:55.74.

Italy already won the girls’ 4x200m free relay during last night’s session.
