Unlike other Billboard charts that measure what fans are deliberately streaming or buying, their Country Airplay chart focuses strictly on radio exposure. It reflects which songs radio programmers are choosing to play the most and is considered a key indicator of commercial success in Nashville and the industry.

"Don't Tell on Me" is Aldean's 27th song to be crowned the top spot on the Country Airplay chart. Country Wire's infographic shows other top country artists, such as George Strait, Luke Bryan, Alan Jackson and more, and how many No. 1 hits they have. Currently, Aldean is ranked fourth, trailing behind Kenny Chesney, Blake Shelton and Tim McGraw.

Released in March, "Don't Tell on Me" served as the second single for Aldean's 12th studio album, Songs About Us. The song was co-written by Kurt Allison, Tully Kennedy, John Morgan and Lydia Vaughan, and produced by his longtime collaborator Michael Knox, and tells the story of a man trying to play it cool after a breakup.
"It took me a second to get my mind [around the concept] cuz I'm like 'All right, we're talking to my heart, right?' You know, trying to get that out," Aldean said in a video he shared on his YouTube channel. "I remember instinctively just like being drawn to the idea cuz I haven't heard that concept before."
Songs About Us was released on April 24, and it was the follow-up to his 2023 album, Highway Desperado. To support the album, he has been on his Songs About Us Tour all summer around the United States, and will be co-headlining select shows alongside Luke Bryan's Double Down Tour.
"We want to be tough guys. We don't want to let anybody know that they got the best of us, or that we're sad, or that we're heartbroken or anything," Aldean told Billboard about the song. "I think that that's something people can relate to."
