The Hallmark Channel started filming this week for its Chicago Bears-themed holiday movie. Production is happening around the city from Soldier Field to a local hardware store on the Far North Side.
The Andersonville Hardware Store on Clark Street transformed into a Hallmark movie set on Monday.
“I was excited as the whole neighborhood,” said owner Vladan Guzina.
Guzina told NBC Chicago producers approached him last month asking if they could use his small business to film “Holiday Touchdown: A Bears Love Story.”
“The guy just walked in, their location manager and he loved it, and next thing you know they were here filming,” he said. “It was very cool to see what’s going on behind the cameras.”
Production prepped his store over the weekend by putting up holiday decorations in deep navy blue and orange along with fake snow outside.
“The background people they were walking up and down the street in winter coats, which is unusual for this time of year,” he said. “They had fake snow across the street so when they were filming inside you can see the snow across the street it’s funny.”
Guzina was on set the entire day and brought his family.
“They were so excited,” he said. “They’re like, ‘This is your time. This is your five minutes of fame.’”
The network released a promo video on Thursday announcing the cast and line up for the movie. The hardware store owner said it was a fun experience for his staff, family, and neighborhood. His store is feeling the buzz.
“Already people start coming in saying, ‘Hey, what’s going on? What happened on Monday?’ And now people also know the name of the store—they know that we are here. That means a lot,” he said.
The movie premieres later this year.
