Marcus Spears Jr., the No. 1 overall prospect in the 2027 recruiting cycle per 247Sports, committed to Sean Miller and the Texas Longhorns Thursday afternoon. In addition, he’ll be reclassifying to the Class of 2026, which means he’ll be suiting up for the Longhorns this upcoming season.
Spears is a 6-foot-10 power forward from Dynamic Prep in Dallas, Texas and the son of former NFL defensive end Marcus Spears. He chose the Longhorns over offers and pushes from Kentucky, LSU and Arizona.
“Texas basketball is becoming a big thing again, and I am excited to be part of it,” Spears said, via Jeff Borzello and Paul Biancardi of ESPN. “The Texas fans can expect a worker with a lot of energy. I will be trying to bring Texas a national championship.”
