While the city’s Pride festival is just one week away, San Diego Black Pride will be in the spotlight this weekend.

The group is more than the event – it’s a non-profit organization that works throughout the year to build community. This year’s festival is a three-day event sharing one theme: “Unbound and Unlimited.”

“This is not just a celebration, it is a declaration,” the group said on its website. “A space curated by us and for us, rooted in pleasure as resistance and joy as strategy.”

Elsewhere around town, you’ve got events sure to lure the whiskey and brewery enthusiasts in your life, as well as an especially wide slate of music-related events. Emo and Northern Soul fans, this is the weekend for you.

The Beat Farmers Hootnanny: In the late 1980s, a group of rockers sometimes fronted by Country Dick Montana became the closest thing this city had (for a minute) to rock stars after their song “Happy Boy” shambled onto the airwaves. Cedros Ave.) to mark 40 years since the release of their album “Van Go.”
