While Abhishek Sharma and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi are considered among the most fierce hitters in the T20 format, sources said that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is closely monitoring their batting in the ongoing India vs England 5-match T20I series.
Ahead of the 4th match of the series in Bristol, it was reported that the board is actually not totally impressed with the batters' intention to hit every ball for a boundary.
An ultra-aggressive batting nature can be fruitful for the Indian cricket team if they can middle the ball on their blades. If they are unable to do so, it can cause in loosing wickets early in the matches, exactly what happened in the ongoing T20I series.
Abhishek Sharma started the UK series on a good note, securing a half-century against Ireland, then another one against England. Both of the fast-paced 50s he secured were a result of his highly intensive batting. The same can be said for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who has been known for hitting the bowlers hard from ball one.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who made his debut in Manchester after winning the Orange Cap in the previous edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) for scoring the most runs at a 200 strike rate, has also been in trouble against the England bowlers.
BCCI to drop Vaibhav Sooryavanshi?
There is no doubt that the Indian team management has immense trust in the 15-year-old batter, as he has the potential to serve the team for a long time in the future. But if he continues to make consistent flop shows for the national cricket team, then the selectors will have to take a harsh call.
By dropping the 2026 T20 World Cup winning skipper Suryakumar Yadav, the player of the 2026 T20 World Cup tournament Sanju Samson from the entire T20I team, and from the playing eleven, respectively, the selectors send a clear message: performance will decide the future.
Vipul Kashyap, an ANI reporter, claimed on the social media platform 'X' that BCCI is not pleased with the batting style of Abhishek Sharma and Vaibhav Suryavanshi.
"BCCI is closely watching the series vs England, especially Abhishek and Suryavanshi's performance; their desire to hit six on every ball is good, but they need to control it," the social media post reads.

In the fourth match, which is a do-or-die match for India, as England is leading the series by 2-0 after the rain washed out the first match of the series, Abhishek Sharma departed for 16 off 14, and Vaibhav Suryavanshi went for only 15 runs from 10 balls.
In back-to-back fixtures, England pacer Jofra Archer clinched Vaibhav's wicket. If the reports are to be belevied true, will the Indian team management consider shuffling their opening combination again? It will be interesting to know.
