Two of the Bears’ Preseason Games Are Getting National TV Coverage

We are less than a month away from the NFL kicking off its exhibition schedule with the Hall of Fame Game. Shortly after that, the Chicago Bears will get the ball rolling with their three-game preseason slate. All three of those games will be televised locally on FOX-32 and aired on ESPN Radio. Fans outside the Chicagoland area can take solace in knowing that two of the Bears’ three preseason games will be nationally televised.

2026 Chicago Bears Preseason Games on NFL Network

The Bears’ preseason matchups against the Cleveland Browns (in Preseason Week 1) and Tennessee Titans (Preseason Week 2) will be televised on NFL Network. It is part of an expansive programming slate from NFL Network and ESPN. One that, as a fan, I am happy to see.

Collectively, the two networks will broadcast 32 live games on their airwaves. But the football action doesn’t stop there, as NFL Network will show every one of the league’s 48 preseason games, either live or via replay. Meanwhile, ESPN (and the ESPN App for fans with an Unlimited package) will air 12 out-of-market games. On the surface, this feels like a win for football fans who are craving some pigskin action.

The NFL preseason has taken a hit in recent years. Firstly, because a game has been trimmed off the schedule. That doesn’t bug me at all. Dumping an exhibition game for a regular-season one is a trade-off I’d gladly make every day of the week. But the other reason the preseason slate has been dinged a bit is that teams around the league don’t treat it the same way they did in the past.

Instead of using the exhibition games to gear up for the regular season, teams are trending toward doing their heavy lifting in joint practice sessions. This leaves preseason games as opportunities for depth players to earn roles on the roster and/or practice squad. Hence, the three-game exhibition slate doesn’t have the same bite. The Bears will have joint sessions with the Bengals and Titans before their preseason games against those respective opponents. I’m not sure if those practices will be open to the public, but if they are, it could be worth the road trip if that is the kind of thing that gets you going ahead of the football season.
