NEWARK, N.Y. — A 32-year-old man is facing charges after State Police say he followed and shot at another car while driving in Wayne County.
Benjamin Lead is charged with attempted assault, criminal possession of a weapon, and criminal use of a firearm.
On June 17, State Police say they responded to a report of a shooting involving two cars. According to State Police, the victims told them they were traveling on State Route 31 after leaving a Newark business when a car started to follow them.
The car, driven by Lead, continued to follow them on Whitbeck Road and Stebbins Road, where State Police say a single gunshot was fired.
According to State Police, the bullet shattered the rear windshield, passed through the passenger compartment, grazed the driver’s headrest, and went through the front windshield. State Police added the driver, a woman, was brought to Strong Memorial Hospital for a cut to her right forearm.
Before arresting Lead, State Police executed a search warrant at his home in Phelps. Investigators say they recovered a pistol and additional evidence during the search.
Lead was processed and brought to the Wayne County Jail.
