The University of Virginia men’s swim team has just announced the signing of two international athletes for the 2026-27 school year: 18-year-old Danis Volontir of Romania and 20-year-old Alexandre Chalendar from France.

Volontir trains year-round with CSM Corona Brasov and specializes in breaststroke. At the 2025 European Junior Championships, he was a semi-finalist in both the 50 breast (9th place) and 100 breast (14th place) and earned PBs in both events (27.98/1:02.22). Six weeks later he represented Romania, the host country, at the 10th World Aquatics Junior Championships in Otopeni. There, he improved his 50 time to 27.93, while finishing 11th in the semis, and his 100 time to 1:02.06 (18th in prelims).
In December, Volontir competed at the 2025 European Short Course Championships, earning PBs in the 50 breast (26.93) and 100 breast (57.92).

Chalendar swims with the Cercle des Nageurs de Marseille and specializes in sprint free and fly. At the 2025 French Elite Championships last June, he picked up a trio of new times in the 50 free (22.70), 100 free (49.16), and 200 free (1:48.94). He placed 12th, 6th, and 6th in the respective finals.
Last week, at the 2026 edition of the French national long course championships, he took 4th in the 100 free (49.25), 16th in the 200 free (1:52.15), and 19th in the 50 free (22.94). Earlier this season, he swam at the first two legs of Mare Nostrum, finaling in the 100 free (50.78, 12th place) in Monaco and the 100 free (49.90, 14th place) and 200 free (1:50.43, 14th place) in Canet-en-Roussillon.
Chalendar represented France at the European Junior Championships in 2024. His best short-course meters times, including the 50/100 fly (24.83/54.10), date from the fall of 2024.

It took 19.46/42.67/1:34.69 to score in the sprint free events and 52.95 to score in the 100 breast at the 2026 ACC Men’s Championships, where the Cavaliers placed 7th out of 15 teams.
