ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Our Yellow Alert continues through most of Independence Day in anticipation of isolated to scattered strong to severe storms, with the main threats being strong winds, hail, and heavy downpours. The morning will likely feature more dry time than the afternoon but there will still be passing showers and isolated thunderstorms, then storms will increase in coverage and intensity for the afternoon as highs reach around 80 degrees. Expect gusts up to 50 MPH and hail up to penny-size within the strongest storms. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors. A cold front will descend down on the region later today, clearing out shower and storm activity from north to south just in time for evening festivities. Rochester should be rain free by 7-8pm; the Finger Lakes will have to wait a little longer, around 9-10pm. It will still be warm and muggy however, with temps and dew points in the low 70s. Expect dry conditions overnight.
Sunday will be largely rain free besides a small chance of showers mainly to the south. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, warm with highs around 80, and a little less muggy than today. Showers and storms are likely to return on Monday, before drier weather for the middle of next week with seasonable temperatures.
