Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is still waiting for his India debut, and demand for the same is only growing with each passing day. Amid the buzz around the 15-year-old teenage sensation, former Indian wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel has a special request from the team management and selectors.
Ahead of the second T20I match against England in Manchester on Saturday (July 4), Parthiv urged the Indian cricket team management to make sure the left-hander understands why he is still on the bench and clearly explain his role on the team.
Sooryavanshi was picked in India's T20I squads for the Ireland and England series after his remarkable IPL 2026 season. The young left-hander impressed everyone with his fearless batting and earned his maiden India call-up, but he has not got a chance yet.
The Bihar teenager was kept on the bench in both T20Is against Ireland and also missed out in the first T20I against England in Durham, which was washed out because of rain on July 1. Amid this, Morne Morkel drops big hint on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's India debut ahead of 2nd T20I.
"Patience and honest communication are the key:" Parthiv Patel on providing clarity to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi
Well, Parthiv believes that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is likely to get a chance at some stage during the ongoing five-match T20I series, but the team management must handle him carefully. If the team is not planning to play him right now, they should tell him the reason.
Parthiv Patel said on JioStar: “I feel that at some point in this series, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will definitely get an opportunity. But at this point in time, communication is something that is very important. When you are part of a coaching staff, you have to make sure that you are giving off the right signals to a batter.
Even if you are not going to make him play, you have to tell him that fact. He’s a 15-year-old kid. You have to speak to him carefully. You have to teach him a little patience. Because when you are playing for India, when you are picked for India, there are a lot of other players as well who have done really well.”
Parthiv Patel explains why Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has no place in India's playing XI
The former wicketkeeper-batter also stressed that getting into India's playing XI is never easy because there is strong competition for every place. He also pointed out that Sanju Samson was one of India's best performers during the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.
Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma have also been regular performers in T20 cricket, so Vaibhav has to wait for his opportunity. Amid this wait, Parthiv believes the most important thing is honest communication because it will help Vaibhav stay confident, remain patient, and be fully ready whenever his chance comes.
Patel signed off by saying, “Talking about Sanju Samson. He was the Player of the Series in the World Cup. You have Ishan Kishan, who is batting at No. 3 and is the No. 1 ICC-ranked player. No. 2 is Abhishek Sharma. At this point in time, there is no place, and you have to communicate that really well to Vaibhav Suryavanshi.”
