ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Some residents at a high-rise housing complex on South Clinton Avenue for people with disabilities or over 50 have been stuck outside for hours overnight after an elevator broke down.
This comes as News10NBC tracks a fourth straight day of temperatures in the 90s on Friday, with the heat index possibly reaching 100 in the afternoon. Our Yellow Alert for heat and humidity continues through the end of the day.
Because many of the residents at Pinnacle Place Apartments can’t go up the stairs, it’s left them concerned about being stranded as temperatures rise. News10NBC’s Kristi Blake spoke with some residents early Friday morning who haven’t been able to return to their apartment for over 12 hours, since 6:30 p.m.
Some residents have been sitting in the shade outside the apartment complex. One resident said a security guard helped someone get up 18 flights of stairs.
Residents say the elevators broke on Thursday, someone came to fix them, but they broke again soon after. We’ve reached out to the apartment complex to learn when the elevator might be fixed. Check back for updates.
