It's time for Silo season 3 to level up, with the series now tackling two different timelines.

The Apple TV hit has previously covered the story of Rebecca Ferguson's Juliette in Silo 18, hundreds of years after humanity was forced underground. By this point, the origins of the silos are unknown and the "founders" are little more than myths.

However, season 3 is about to turn this narrative on its head by going back to the "Before Times" with congressman Daniel (Ashley Zukerman) and journalist Helen (Jessica Henwick) to show us what happened when the silos were built.

When is Silo season 3 set?

According to Hugh Howey's books, Juliette's story takes place in the 24th century – around 2352.

However, the "Before Times" (where we meet Daniel and Helen) will be a bit more recognisable to audiences, despite still containing some sci-fi elements. That story is set in our near future – from about 2049 to 2052.

The following timeline illustrates some of the key events we've seen so far:

In season 3, we're set to go further back in time than we have before in Silo (barring the season 2 finale, which gave us a glimpse of the Before Times).

Showrunner Graham Yost has revealed that season 3 will diverge the most from Hugh Howey's books.

 He told Radio Times: "The heaviest lifting we had to do was in this season, and then to an extent, in the final season. The first two seasons were the first book.

"The first half of the first book gets Juliette sent out to clean, and the second half is her in Silo 17 and the rebellion in 18. And so we followed that roughly. We did a bunch of switcheroos and stuff, but basically that.

"In Shift, the second book, Juliette doesn't appear until the final page, and I said, "Hugh, we're not doing that." And he's like, "Cool. I wanna see what you do."
