The Texas A&M family is mourning the loss of an Aggie great. Keith Mitchell is reportedly dead at age 51.

Travis L. Brown of KTBX was first to report the news. A Texas A&M spokesperson confirmed the news upon KTBX’s inquiry. KTBX’s article did not provide any details of Mitchell’s death. TMZ also reports that details have not been disclosed.

    Mitchell played for Texas A&M’ from 1993-96, a star on the”Wrecking Crew” defense. He earned All-Southwest Conference recognition in 1995 followed by All-Big 12 honors in 1996 and a College Football News All-America selection in his final season.

    At Texas A&M, Mitchell logged 34 career sacks. His senior season included 14.5 sacks and 50 solo tackles.

    Despite his standout A&M career, Mitchell was not selected in the 1997 NFL Draft. He went on to have a multi-year pro career, landing with the New Orleans Saints.

    A member of the Saints from the 1997-2001, Mitchell was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2000. Following his time with the Saints, Mitchell played for the Houston Texans (2002) and Jacksonville Jaguars (2003). He finished with 408 tackles, including 19.5 sack, over 94 appearances in the NFL.

    Mitchell was inducted into the Texas A&M Athletics Hall of Fame in 2015.
