ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Yellow Alerts have been hoisted for several days this upcoming week for some storms, along with high heat and humidity. Tuesday will be our first Alert Day, as some storms are possible with the arrival of our heat and humidity. Some of those storms may produce gusty winds and frequent lightning, along with periods of heavy rain.
Then, we’re focusing on the high heat and humidity starting Wednesday. Air temperatures in the lower 90s will combine with tropical dew points in the mid and upper 70s to cause the heat index to rise into the triple digits during peak heating Wednesday through Friday. Our bodies cool by sweating, and when dew points and relative humidity are high, we can’t sweat as efficiently, thus impacting our bodies. If you work outdoors or are spending time outdoors next week, make sure you’re taking frequent breaks and staying hydrated. This is the type of weather that can start to impact your health so make sure you’re listening to your body. Also, don’t forget about our pets! Make sure they have shade and water.
Until then, we’ll enjoy quiet and fairly comfortable weather Sunday and Monday. High temperatures today will top out near 80 degrees with comfortable humidity levels and plenty of sunshine. Monday will climb into the mid 80s, but staying dry with dew points holding in the 60s.
