He did it though, and as promised, he got to take a song with the band. Surprising all the fans in the audience, he hopped on the drums and hung with the group for a great version of the song "Rope."
Of course, the stunt was all some lighthearted fun to make the show into something more exciting for the fans there, which it certainly accomplished. It's such a bizarre and silly idea, that it no doubt elevated the performance and brought everyone there closer together. Fans absolutely loved the moment, leaving comments about how funny it was, and how great of a job he did on the drums.
