Emma Raducanu is once again facing a race against time to be fit for Wimbledon.
The 23-year-old made her breakthrough at SW19 five years ago, reaching the fourth round as a teenager, and achieved the same in 2024.
Only world No 1 Aryna Sabalenka stopped her in a Friday night barnburner last year, and hopes were high coming to Wimbledon after Raducanu reached the final of Queen’s.
But in keeping with the injury-dogged nature of her career thus far, she has not been able to get back on the match court since – and the No 30 seed is in danger of failing to do so for her first-round match against Antonia Ruzic on Monday.
What is Raducanu’s injury?
During her quarter-final win over Kamilla Rakhimova at Queen’s, Raducanu slipped on the court and had her thigh strapped.
However, she still made it through two more matches unscathed – a total of three in just over 24 hours because of rain delays – to suggest the knock was not a problem.

What is the impact of Raducanu’s injury?
Raducanu warmed up fine at Aorangi Park, Wimbledon’s practice facility, albeit without moving around much. When she headed to No 3 Court for a practice set against Anna Kalinskaya, she lost four games in a row.

When will she make a decision?
Raducanu was entered into Friday’s draw, and tournament regulations mean that as long as she is on site, withdrawing after that will still allow her to receive 50 per cent of first-round prize money, which is £80,000.
As such, she could in theory delay her final decision until minutes before her scheduled first-round match, which is due to start at 1pm on Monday.

Tim Henman: The day I lost my temper with Tony Blair James Gray: How Emma Raducanu fixed her ‘big mistake’She was due to face media after practice on Saturday but pushed that back to Sunday – probably wanting to avoid a repeat of the embarrassment in Rome, when she conducted a confident press conference and pulled out of the tournament minutes later.
Raducanu is understood to have regretted that series of events, so the move of her press conference to Sunday suggests two things: firstly that she is not confident of playing on Monday, and secondly that she will make a decision after practice on Sunday rather than leave it to the last minute.
