Archie Manning admits he made an awkward mistake when putting together the list of counselors for the annual Manning Passing Academy in 2025.
Last offseason, Manning initially invited Trinidad Chambliss to be a counselor at the camp after his standout season at Ferris State without realizing that he had transferred to Ole Miss. Manning had also invited Austin Simmons, who was slated to be the starter for Ole Miss heading into last season.
That mixup resulted in one of the two quarterbacks having to be uninvited from the event. Manning explained the unfortunate situation while speaking with reporters on Friday.
“We’re glad to have Trinidad with us this year,” Manning said. “I invited Trinidad to the Manning Passing Academy last year. I had heard about him, he was a little quarterback at Ferris State so I invited him and he accepted. I did something really bad. We had Austin Simmons, who was going to be the starter at Ole Miss … and I didn’t need two from a school, so (former Ole Miss offensive coordinator) Charlie Weis Jr. kind of helped me uninvite Trinidad … and I wanted to make sure we invited him this year.”

Of course, Chambliss ended up being Ole Miss’s primary starter last season after replacing an injured Simmons early in the year. He received another invite following the 2025 season and accepted.
“I did have the invite, but then, you can’t have 2 Ole Miss quarterbacks coming,” Chambliss said Friday. “Completely understand. It was a bummer I couldn’t come, but it’s all good. I’m glad I’m here now.”
Chambliss is now one of the favorites to win the Heisman Trophy entering 2026 after his breakout year with the Rebels last fall.
