Chicago Cubs Lineup: Matt Shaw in RF Against Jacob Misiorowski

Since June 11, the Cubs are 10-3, which is the best record in baseball across that timeframe. They’re coming off a four-game sweep of the New York Mets that saw the Cubs’ offense score 33 runs. Despite the always-increasing number of injuries to their pitching staff, the Cubs are staying afloat.

However, it’s not like they’ve been playing the strongest of opponents. They haven’t faced a team above .500 since June 4, when they avoided a sweep against the Athletics. After a soft spot in their schedule, the Cubs now get to face the Brewers for a three-game set in Milwaukee. The Brewers are 20 games above .500, just one win behind the Dodgers for the best team in baseball.

The Cubs and Brewers have already faced off once this season, a series that saw the Brewers embarrass the Cubs at Wrigley Field last month. Here’s to hoping this matchup goes a little better for the North Siders.

Just a heads up that tonight’s game is on Apple TV. There’s also the option on Apple TV to listen to the radio audio, so you can still listen to Pat and Ron on 104.3 The Score while watching the game!

    Chicago Cubs Lineup:

Pete Crow-Armstrong, CF Alex Bregman, 3B Michael Busch, 1B Seiya Suzuki, DH Ian Happ, LF Nico Hoerner, 2B Carson Kelly, C Matt Shaw, RF Dansby Swanson, SS

This Cubs lineup hasn’t done well against Misiorowski thus far in his young career, although that’s not saying much, because no one has done well against him. Michael Busch is 2/7 with 3 RBIs against the tall righty in 7 plate appearances, but that’s about it.

Other than that, Matt Shaw continues to get his regular playing time out in right field, keeping Seiya Suzuki at DH.

    Milwaukee Brewers Lineup:

Christian Yelich, DH Jackson Chourio, LF Brice Turang, 2B William Contreras, C Jake Bauers, RF Andrew Vaughn, 1B Garrett Mitchell, CF Cooper Pratt, SS David Hamilton, 3B

    Pitching Matchup:

    Chicago Cubs: Colin Rea, RHP

Colin Rea hasn’t been his usual self this year, although he’s still been serviceable as a back-of-the-rotation arm. Across 16 games, 12 of them starts, Rea has a 4.99 ERA and 1.40 WHIP. June has been especially rough, with a 5.85 ERA and 1.50 WHIP.

Rea has not pitched against the Brewers this season. Last year in the regular season, he allowed six runs in 9.2 innings. He also faced them in the NLDS, giving up just one run across six innings of work, spread out across two games.

One thing to keep an eye on is Rea’s home/road splits. At Wrigley Field this season, Rea has allowed just 11 runs in 38.0 innings. On the road, he’s allowed 33 runs in 41.1 innings, three times as many as when pitching at the Friendly Confines. The Cubs will need him to rewrite that script tonight at American Family Field.

    Milwaukee Brewers: Jacob Misiorowski, RHP

Tonight, the Cubs are facing Jacob Misiorowski, arguably the best pitcher in baseball. The Cubs have faced Misiorowski once already this year, and it went just about exactly how you’d expect. He threw six shutout innings at Wrigley Field, striking out eight and allowing just three hits and one walk.

In 15 starts this season, Misiorowski has a 1.45 ERA and 0.75 WHIP. He’s yet to give up more than three runs in a start, and he’s only given up three runs twice. Six of those 15 outings have seen Misiorowski total double-digit strikeouts. He’s easily the best pitcher right now, and it’s not close.

The odds that this Cubs team can beat Misiorowski are slim to none. That goes for any team in baseball right now. Their only hope is to work the count earlier in the game, getting to the Brewers’ bullpen as soon as possible.
