Sarah Ferguson met with Jeffrey Epstein twice at his office while he was imprisoned on a child sex offence.
The pair discussed business ideas and the former royal appears to have given Epstein some documents relating to her recent venture to read.
The convicted paedophile was allowed to work at a premises in Palm Beach while he was in jail under work release.
The former Duchess of York contacted him and arranged to visit on two occasions in 2009.
A third liaison was arranged, but emails show the visit did not happen because Ferguson was unable to make her flight.
In emails unearthed from the Epstein files by The Daily Telegraph, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s former wife can be seen arranging visits to the Florida Science Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation Epstein set up just before he began his prison sentence.
“Hello Jeffrey,” Ferguson writes at 2.19pm on 4 April, 2009. “I am landing in Palm Beach in a couple of hours. Is there any chance on my quick layover, that I can get to have a quick cup of tea..”
She signs off the email: “Love Sarah, The red Head.!!”.
The email thread indicates the pair met at his office, with Epstein providing the address of 250 South Australian Avenue to the former royal – the same site that Epstein victims have alleged they were abused at.
After the pair met, Epstein sent Ferguson a warm email praising her Mother’s Army initiative, an online network she later launched to connect women in need, and sharing thoughts on how to commercialise the project.
“You look great,” he wrote on 6 April. “I read everything you gave me.” Epstein advised her to reduce the number of “pictures and charts” and add more “substance” to the documents she gave him, before saying she should start a company – “Mothers army”.
“Give our badges or hates or ome sign of membership,, charge 5 dollars,” he told her, encouraging her to seek support from former US first lady Michelle Obama.
“My dear spectacular and special friend Jeffrey. You are a legend, and I am so proud of you. Thank you for looking after me so well..,” she replied on 11 April, before signing off “lots of love”.
An undated, redacted photo released by the US Department of Justice shows Sarah Ferguson with an unknown woman (Photo: US Department of Justice/AP)Epstein and Ferguson repeatedly discussed the “Mother’s Army” initiative across a number of months.
A number of emails from the pair are in the Epstein files, a dump of millions of documents from US law enforcement relating to the late disgraced financier. The i Paper previously unearthed emails showing how Ferguson pleaded with Epstein in 2010 to help pay off her £5m debts.
Another meet-up between the two was arranged for later in the month, with Ferguson asking for “1 hour for a brainstorming of your genius ideas. !!” in an email on 17 April. She also asks whether someone who appears to be on Epstein’s staff could drive her to and from the airport. “Sorry to ask but … A girl has to!!”
Epstein was due to meet his sex addiction therapist at the office on 20 April, the day Ferguson proposed to meet, according to The Daily Telegraph. He was in prison after being jailed for procuring a minor for prostitution in June 2008. A generous work release programme allowed him to leave his cell for up to 12 hours a day, returning only to sleep in prison.
The planned meeting appears not to have happened. Ferguson emailed him on the morning of the planned visit saying “Aaaaghhh… Cannot make the flights”.
A second visit does appear to have gone ahead later in May.
The former Duchess of York has repeatedly tried to distance herself from Epstein. Being named among the Epstein files is not an indication of wrongdoing.
A spokesman for Ferguson previously told the BBC: “The Duchess spoke of her regret about her association with Epstein many years ago, and as they have always been, her first thoughts are with his victims.
“Like many people, she was taken in by his lies. As soon as she was aware of the extent of the allegations against him, she not only cut off contact but condemned him publicly, to the extent that he then threatened to sue her for defamation for associating him with paedophilia.”
The former Duchess has not responded to a request to comment from The i Paper.
