A mainstay of Old Sacramento is reopening Saturday after a fire kept the longtime costume and novelty shop closed for more than a year.
Evangeline's Costume Mansion is set to reopen June 27 and 28, nearly a year after a fire damaged the first floor of its historic building.
The June 2025 fire ripped through the first-floor novelty and gift shop. The upper floors, home to Evangeline's famed Costume Mansion, also suffered smoke damage.
No one was hurt in the fire, but the damage forced the business into a lengthy restoration process that kept it closed through Halloween and the rest of 2025.
"We truly appreciate everyone who reached out with kind wishes, encouragement, and generous offers to help during the reconstruction. Your support has meant the world to us," the owners said in a previous statement.
The reopening applies to the Costume Mansion on the upper floors. No reopening date has been set yet for the first-floor gift shop.
Evangeline's celebrated 50 years in Old Sacramento in 2025.
The store occupies the historic Lady Adams Building and Howard House, buildings originally built in the mid-1860s.
