Five people were hurt after two boats crashed overnight near Chicago’s Monroe Harbor, the Chicago Fire Department said, with the scene drawing a large police response and video showing major damage to at least one boat.
The crash, involving two boats, unfolded shortly before midnight ear 500 S. DuSable Lake Shore Drive and 400 East Monroe. Five people were transported to hospitals with serious injuries, CFD said. Four others were involved but refused medical care.
Photos and video captured from the scene showed a badly damaged boat roped to a Chicago police boat in Lake Michigan. Members of the CFD, CPD and CFD Scuba Team could be seen carrying those injured onto land and loading them into ambulances. A boat from the U.S. Coast Guard was also onsite.
Near the waterfront, multiple police cars and ambulances could be seen, with some blocking roads, Multiple Chicago police and fire officials could also be seen near the water wearing life vests.
