Former India cricket team head coach Rahul Dravid has heaped praise on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and has claimed that there is no recipe to create a player like him. The 15-year-old, who has worked in close quarters with the veteran during his maiden IPL season with Rajasthan Royals, is on the verge of creating history as he will become the youngest player to play for India if he makes his debut in IRE vs IND 1st T20I. Ahead of the contest, the ex-RR coach stressed on the need for Vaibhav to be protected and supported along the long journey in order to uncover his full potential.
Dravid goes gaga over Sooryavanshi but has a warning
Speaking to the BBC ahead of the IRE vs IND 1st T20I, Dravid revealed that Sooryavanshi had worked very hard in the nets, noting that it played an important role in shaping him as a player apart from being naturally gifted. The former RR coach said that it while it was important for Vaibhav to be protected, he also needs to be supported and helped, adding that it was a fine line and that he ought to be allowed to fly.
“I just hope that he’s supported and helped along the journey to be able to actually achieve that potential. You need to protect someone like him, but it’s always going to be that fine line because sometimes you need to let somebody fly,” Dravid said.

After being picked up by RR in the IPL 2025 auction after the team scouts witnessed his prowess for Bihar in the domestic circuit, Vaibhav grabbed eyeballs in his very first season with his ability to strike fearlessly. He has grown leaps and bounds since then, emerging as a force to be reckoned with.

“You’re looking at a really unique talent. I think it’s an incredible combination of ability to pick up a bowler’s speed and then cricket smarts, fearlessness. It’s a whole combination of things. I don’t think there’s a recipe for making a Sooryavanshi, I don’t think you can take any kid and say, do this, and he will become that good,” Dravid added.
