When it comes to quarterbacks and respect in the NFL, San Francisco 49ers star Brock Purdy has generally been one of the more underrated signal-callers in recent years. Part of that is due to his supporting cast. There’s also the brain of head coach Kyle Shanahan.
But Purdy has developed into one of the NFL’s better quarterbacks, thanks to his creativity, brain, anticipation, and playmaking ability. In 2025, with his supporting cast dealing with injuries, Purdy managed to step up and lead the team to 13 wins after returning from an injury of his own. He threw for 2,167 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions in nine starts, while completing 69.4 percent of his passes.

Now, heading into 2026, has he cemented himself as a top 100 player in the sport?
Ahead of last season, Purdy still wasn’t getting as much love from the national media. CBS Sports’s Pete Prisco had Purdy outside of his Top 100, while ESPN had the 49ers quarterback just in the mix at No. 96.
On Prisco’s list, that meant Purdy was outside the Top 11 quarterbacks, which included Patrick Mahomes (No. 1 overall), Josh Allen (No. 4 overall), Lamar Jackson (No. 6 overall), Joe Burrow (No. 7 overall), Jayden Daniels (No. 33 overall), Justin Herbert (No. 49 overall), Jalen Hurts (No. 52 overall), Baker Mayfield (No. 57 overall), Jared Goff (No. 77 overall), Dak Prescott (No. 90 overall), and Jordan Love (No. 92 overall).
Another notable omission from the list was Matthew Stafford, who won the MVP last season.

As for ESPN’s list, Purdy was ranked the No. 14 quarterback behind every player listed above, Stafford, and C.J. Stroud.
Well, ahead of the 2026 season, Purdy is moving up the rankings on Prisco’s list, coming in at No. 75.
“Injuries limited him to nine games last season. But in those nine games, he threw 20 touchdown passes, the same number he threw in 15 games in 2024,” Prisco wrote.
At No. 75, Purdy is the 15th best quarterback on the list, ranking behind Matt Stafford (No. 2 overall), Josh Allen (No. 3 overall), Joe Burrow (No. 5 overall), Patrick Mahomes (No. 7 overall), Lamar Jackson (No. 10 overall), Dak Prescott (No. 43 overall), Jordan Love (No. 51 overall), Jared Goff (No. 57 overall), Drake Maye (No. 61 overall), Justin Herbert (No. 63 overall), Trevor Lawrence (No. 65 overall), Jayden Daniels (No. 69 overall), Caleb Williams (No. 70 overall), and Sam Darnold (No. 72).

So, even though he has jumped in the rankings, Purdy is actually considered lower on the quarterback tier list heading into this season.
Some notable names behind Purdy include Baker Mayfield (No. 80), Jalen Hurts (No. 84), and Bo Nix (No. 87).
Health will be key for Purdy, who was limited to only nine games last season, as will limiting turnovers after a third-straight season with double-digit interceptions.
Is Purdy still underrated? Or is No. 75 the right spot for him?
