Multiple severe thunderstorm and flash flood warnings were issued across the region as storms rolled through, with the biggest threats coming from damaging wind gusts and hail and the potential for an isolated tornado to spin up.
Surveillance video shared with NBC Chicago captured the moment a large tree branch fell on a moving car in Chicago’s Beverly neighborhood near 104th and Seely.
Video captured by an NBC Chicago photographer showed bits of the branch scattered around the street after it hit the car.
Dark clouds could also be seen swirling in the skies over nearby suburban Tinley Park during the storms.
In suburban Bartlett, several trees came crashing down on houses, yards and streets in the area.
In Elgin, a pickup truck stood no chance against a massive tree that came crashing down on it near Ford and Elma.
In Streamwood, some homes saw damage to the roof and siding. Some smaller trees in the area were also damaged.
